Now the kids can help take kitchen scraps to the nearby vegetable garden compost bin.
Thanks to my resourceful husband for converting old wooden pallets into just the size we needed. He spent $15 on three pallets from a local thrift store, sawing them in half to create shorter sides. A few more pieces of cedar to complete the project made the grand total $25.
This fits in the corner of our garden, convenient now for the extra vines we've been trimming off the squash plants. As long as we keep layering properly with a little dirt, wood chips, newspapers, and dried leaves, the decomposing vegetable peelings and vines should never smell bad.
