California's Secretary of State has reported its
certified vote totals for
Proposition 37, the measure to require labeling of genetically engineered foods. The state's final report shows the measure lost by less than 3%...narrowed from the apparent 6% gap reported on election night. The certified vote shows 6,088,714 votes yes to 6,442,371 votes no.
Some Prop 37 supporters
have questioned whether all votes were accurately counted in this divisive ballot measure. The Secretary of State's office has stood by its accounting and issued its final "statement of vote" late last week.
California
leads the way, while other states have Right-to-Know efforts in the works. Opponents have been largely business interests that argue the labeling is confusing, inconsistent and burdensome.
