How do you feel about yard work? Honestly. I love it when it's done. I can enjoy it for a day. But depending on how much you have to mow and the size of your yard, you may or may not find landscaping work relaxing and fun.
While I love being outdoors and take some pride in vegetable and flower gardening, I don't spend as much time as I'd like to with maintenance. My husband, on the other hand, is meticulous about certain things that I might let go. He decided it was time to tidy up the rose bushes in the backyard, so he found the time to trim them.
Perhaps the biggest time drain on your lawnwork is mowing. Most space that you convert to some kind of vegetable or flower bed or plant in trees will probably save you time in the long run, compared to mowing time each week. Sure, you'll still have maintenance. However the more native plants and drought-resistant plants that you choose, the less maintenance they'll require.
Whether you have help with yard work or are the do-it-yourself type, I hope you're enjoying time in the great outdoors -- just outside your door.
