Mysterious Garden Gourds Take on a Life of Their Own

I told you about our Tennessee Spinning Top Gourds last year.  I made the mistake of planting them inside the vegetable garden and they nearly took over.

I didn't plant any of those this year.  But I did plant squash and pumpkins.

These gourd-like fruits are growing on climbing vines, not large enough to be squash or pumpkins, and with a hint of a stripe...

I remember that the spinning tops were supposed to be edible, but not tasty.  We'll have to try one of these apparently hybrid gourds.
