Treecycling for the Birds

If you have enough space for your Christmas tree to decompose, perhaps you keep it on the property for wildlife to use like we do.  This year, the kids and I added an extra treat for the birds.

Our idea started with my baking mishap.  I made the mistake of using old yeast for our Christmas dinner rolls, and they turned out too heavy.

We poked holes in the leftover rolls, inserting either a piece of cornshuck or a small twig through the holes.
We spread peanut butter on both sides of the rolls, then dipped them in birdseed.
We hung our birdseed decorations on the outdoor tree.  Although bread is not an ideal food for birds, the rolls seemed like an edible base that worked nearly as well as the pinecones the kids had used previously.
