Smokies in Winter

It's a treat to visit the nation's most visited national park on a day when no one else seems to be visiting!  We managed to find a rare day to admire both flowing streams and frozen icicles, to feel crisp air and meander along clear mountain roads.

The icy wheel of the grist mill showed no signs of budging in Cades Cove, where a display of log cabins and barns invites visitors to explore.
The grazing horses didn't seem to mind the slower pace, in between bustling tourist seasons at Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
Bud-swollen rhododendron held the quiet promise of spring.
