If you keep black construction paper on hand, you can turn that awesome moment into a science lesson.
Caught off guard by early March snowflakes, we grabbed black felt and headed outdoors so the kids could capture and observe the frozen clumps of crystals.
If we'd been really prepared, like the National Wildlife Federation suggests, we would have had frozen pieces of black construction paper to preserve our treasures a few moments longer.
A magnifying glass can help kids get up close with the wonder of perfectly formed ice crystals and appreciate their variety of shapes.
